Jaane Kahan Se Aaya Hai (English: The Girl Who Disappeared) is a 2014 Hindi thriller mystery film directed by Hitesh Manjani and produced by Maneesh Sharma. The film received mixed reviews but became a success at the box office. The film stars Alia Bhatt, Isha Koppikar, Shernaz Patel and Pankaj Tripathi in the lead roles. The film tells the story of two sisters (Alia Bhatt and Isha Koppikar) who go on a vacation to Goa with their mother (Shernaz Patel), but one of them goes missing. The mystery around where she has gone and why she went missing is revealed though flashbacks of the past which eventually reveals that all of them are living two different lives - one where they are happy and the other where they are sad.
The songs are composed by Prashant Pillai, Sachin Sanghvi, Meet Bros, Hitesh Sonik, Shashwat Sachdev. Music of the film is released on T-Series. After working together in the 2011 Bollywood thriller "Murder 3", actor-filmmakers Aditya Pancholi and Hitesh Manjani joined together once again, this time to make a film called "Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai" which was to be produced by Pancholi's Anil Kapoor Film Company (AKFC). Manjani said that the female protagonist of the film would not be portrayed by an established star but rather by a newcomer actress. The film was shot in Greece and Goa. The film was canned on 15 November 2013 in Goa at Panaji. The trailer of the film was released on the Internet on 8 June 2014. The theatrical trailer of the movie got so much popularity on YouTube that more than 35 million hits at one point of time. "Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai" opened to mixed reviews from critics from different parts of the world who sharply divided over its story by saying it wasn't a good enough suspense thriller but a decent prequel because it reveals what happens to them all, where they are now and how far they have come from their past lives, which many found interesting. Swati Deogire of "The Times of India" praised the way the film's story played out. She said, "Hitesh Manjani has shown considerable intelligence in piecing together his narrative in a way that makes it difficult to guess what is coming next, while simultaneously giving us just enough information to drive our imaginations wild". Taran Adarsh of "Bollywood Hungama" gave it 2 stars out of 5 and stated, "Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is far from being a compelling thriller. The narrative has too many loopholes, is incoherent at times and drags on endlessly".
